Crop yields became excessively dependent on the use of chemical fertilizers. In the last 50 years global food production has doubled, while fertilizer consumption has increased more than five fold. Today, farmers are generally applying more chemical fertilizer than necessary to grow their crops due to a reduction in soil fertility, which is now known to be caused by the excessive use of chemical fertilizers.

Biological scientists have been working hard to find a viable alternative to chemical fertilizer and have developed polymicrobial formulations, which are now proven to be capable of significantly reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, or replacing them entirely in some crops. Application of StandUp® enables plants to access atmospheric nitrogen, and unbind phosphorus and potassium in the soil plants cannot otherwise access, helps to increase the organic matter content in the soil that is key for increasing productivity.
