World Soil Day – December 5

“Caring for the planet starts from the ground”. World Soil Day (WSD) is held annually on 5 December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)  has supported the formal establishment of WSD as a global awareness raising platform.

• Soils are essential to achieve food security and eradicate hunger
• Soils are essential to improve nutrition
• Soils are essential to provide clean water
• Soils are essential to mitigate and adapt to climate change
• Soils are essential to preserve biodiversity.
